Profiles in leadership

Editor's Note: Leadership Mountain View (LMV) prepares adults who live or work in the city to take on a wide variety of leadership roles in the community. LMV, a program of the Mountain View Chamber of Commerce Education Foundation, guides 35 individuals through a nine-month program each year. Over 450 persons have graduated from the program since it began in 1989.

Maurice Ghysels

Maurice Ghysels, Leadership Mountain View Class of 2006, came to Mountain View in the summer of 2005 to join the Mountain View Whisman School District as its new superintendent. When the school board recommended him for LMV, he jumped at the chance to get to know our city better as well as gain insights into its strengths and challenges.

Dr. Ghysels, rapidly approaching the two-year mark with MV Whisman, now knows a great deal more about the city than he did upon entering LMV. He sits on the board of the Mountain View Chamber of Commerce and is active with many local organizations, including CHAC, the Anti-Gang Task Force and the Challenge Team.

Ghysels credits LMV with a wonderful introduction to the city and its leaders. He also credits LMV with strengthening his belief that everyone has something to contribute.

This April, Ghysels is taking a day off from his job as superintendent to co-facilitate the First Annual Leadership Symposium with Rick Brandon, author of "Survival of the Savvy."

Congratulations on hiring Maurice Ghysels, PhD.

He's creative...He's committed to education...

He's an innovator as far as facilitating using each person's gifts for the good of the child.

I wish him courage!
