Letter: City manager paid more than San Jose counterpart

Bookmark and Share
Our City Council members have been busy patting themselves on the back and banking re-election campaign contributions.

Unfortunately, they have overlooked the fact that they are spending our hard-earned tax dollars. Kevin Duggan, the city manager, gets paid more than the San Jose city manager, a much bigger job.

We are told that he is doing a good job. How can that be? Firefighter and police salaries have swelled to an average of $190,000 and other employees average $124,000. Obviously, he has no concern about how the city spends our taxes.

Our firefighters do not fight many fires. However, they respond to many emergency medical calls. Why doesn't the city farm out the EMR calls and save our taxpayers a lot of money?

Mountain View is 1/10th the size of San Jose, California. For the city to pay its City Manager more than his counterpart in San Jose is a shame. This is just another good reason why "ALL" city services should be outsourced. It would be similar to a corporation hiring a property management firm to manage its properties. It would be at a fixed cost and there would not be any retirement packages to payout for years to come.............."Just Think About It"...................

By the time the average citizen figures out what has been going on, all these "public" employees will retire and leave us all with a heavy burden to fund their retirements. They've been cooking the books in the back room for so long just knowing that the public will never figure it out until it's too late.

It is just sad that the city manager is getting paid this much and still there are layoffs and not filling open positions. All the economist say the way to recovery is for employment. You would think that a government would do the right thing and make sure all their spots are filled so people are working.
