Car crash closes road
The northbound lane of Shoreline Boulevard, between Latham and Mercy streets, was closed for about an hour Wednesday, Sept. 8, as crews worked to clear debris left after a Cobra kit car ran into a tree on the median, Mountain View police said. The driver of the car was bloodied by the wreck, but was reported to be in stable condition at a local hospital.
A passerby, Mountain View resident Mike Gowan, wrote in an e-mail that the Cobra appeared to be "pretty mangled" when he rode by on his bicycle at about 8:35 a.m.
According to police spokeswoman Liz Wylie, officers were called to the scene at 7:49 a.m. Wylie said police do not know what caused the accident but said alcohol was not a factor. The victim, a male, was driving alone in the car and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
