This Week!

Three super-fun, food-action events to chew and get-yer-goin' on :)

Surfrider Social /Ocean Friendly Restaurant Kickoff
Half Moon Bay Brewing Company
April 12th , 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM
390 Capistrano Rd., Half Moon Bay
Surfrider San Mateo

Join local Surfrider volunteers at a social to celebrate Half Moon Bay Brewing Company as the first San Mateo County Ocean Friendly Restaurant! If you haven't been to HMB Brewing Co, you must...and if you have, you are excited to be going back. What a fun place - next to the ocean, firepits, music...wonderful!

The Surfrider Ocean Friendly Restaurant campaign recruits and supports restaurants that reduce disposable plastic waste polluting our beaches. They need your help! Single use plastics (much of it coming from the food industry) are choking the oceans and environment. Participating restaurants promise to reduce plastic waste by:

1. Getting rid of all styrofoam (styrofoam takes 50 years to degrade)
2. Recycling materials properly
3. Offering only reusable tableware onsite, and only providing to-go utensils upon request.
4. Offering no plastic bags for takeout (plastic bags take 10 years to degrade)

The program also requires additional action such as plastic straws by request only, reducing the 500 million plastic straws used every day in the U.S. Support Half Moon Bay Brewing Company’s pledge, and learn about all the exciting projects Surfrider has planned for 2018. Meet the fun-loving San Mateo team, and join the effort to clean and care for the San Mateo coast.

Great Race for Saving Water
April 14th, 9AM
Palo Alto Baylands
$25
Tuolumne River Trust

All the cool people are coming out Saturday for this 5K fun walk/run in support of the work of the Tuolumne River Trust (TRT) to protect and restore the river. The Tuolumne River provides drinking water for 2.5 people in the Bay area, provides agricultural water to over 200,000 acres of farmland in Stanislaus County, and is habitat for our wild fall-run Chinook salmon and steelhead trout. “If every year were an average water year, the Tuolumne River could provide enough water to sustain a vibrant agricultural economy as well as a healthy river ecosystem,” says TRT Policy Director Peter Drekmeier. But sustained drought has made the river fighting grounds for many stakeholders, and our local salmon population suffers and dies while competing interests siphon off their home. Make the Tuolumne great again!
