About this blog:
Get the latest food news with the biweekly Peninsula Foodist newsletter.
I am a perpetually hungry twenty-something journalist, born and raised in Menlo Park and currently working at the Palo Alto Weekly as education and youth staff writer. I graduated from USC with a major in Spanish and a minor in journalism. Though my first love is journalism, food is a close second. I am constantly on the lookout for new restaurants to try, building an ever-expanding "to eat" list. As a journalist, I'm always trolling news sources and social media websites with an eye for local food news, from restaurant openings and closings to emerging food trends. When I was a teenager growing up in Menlo Park, I always drove up to the city on weekends with the singular purpose of finding a better meal than I could at home. But in the past year or so, the Peninsula's food culture has been totally transformed, with many new restaurants opening and a continuous stream of San Francisco restaurants coming south to open Peninsula outposts. Don't navigate this food boom hungry and alone! Feed me your tips on new chefs and eats and together we'll share them with the broader community.

Mountain View gets its own Ike's sandwich shop
Uploaded: Aug 9, 2019
Ever-expanding sandwich chain Ike's Love & Sandwiches opened its newest location this week at 1020 N. Rengstorff Ave., Suite F, in Mountain View.
Ike Shehadeh started the sandwich shop Ike's Place in San Francisco more than a decade ago. There are now 70 Ike's throughout California and in Nevada, Arizona and Texas. Locally, the sandwich shop has outposts in
Palo Alto, Redwood City, Burlingame and is also expanding to Sunnyvale. The company plans to open 100 additional locations by the end of 2020, according to a press release.

Ike's is known for a long menu that allows for hundreds of ingredient combinations (including a secret "dirty sauce" that's spread on every sandwich unless you request otherwise) and cheeky sandwich names that often reference the location where they're served or athletes who work with Shehadeh to develop their own sandwich.
Each location opens with an exclusive sandwich. Mountain View has the “Larry Page & I Have The Same Birthday, So Basically I Invented Google Too,” a roast beef sandwich with foxfire sauce and pepper jack cheese, and a vegetarian version called “Judson Drive” with vegan fried chicken.
The Mountain View Ike's will hold a grand opening on Wednesday, Aug. 14. The first 50 guests will receive a free sandwich, and anyone who shows they are following Ike’s on Instagram can get a sandwich for $5 all day.
The sandwich shop is open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
We need your support now more than ever. Can we count on you?
