The Second Harvest Food Bank has teamed up with Bay Area companies this holiday season to run an online auction to raise food for the needy.
The eBay auction at www.2ndharvest.net/auctions
started Wednesday and runs through Dec. 14. It will feature items donated
by partner companies. Items include the "world's fastest computer'' built
by Nvidia, a road trip with the San Jose Sharks and tickets to a Shania
Twain concert. Contributing companies include Applied Materials Inc.,
Nvidia, and Oracle Corporation. Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara
and San Mateo Counties conducts the largest holiday food drive in the
nation. Currently, the organization is feeding 165,000 people on average
each month, a number that is expected to spike to 210,000 during the holiday
season. Over the past two years, the organization has seen a 40 percent
increase in the number of people it is serving.
