AOL lays off 375 employees AOL lays off 375 employees (December 12, 2003)

In an effort to cut costs, America Online announced the layoff of 375 software developers at its Mountain View campus Tuesday.

In addition, widely published reports said the company plans to close down San Francisco and San Diego development centers by the end of the year. Operations will be consolidated in Mountain View and Irvine, the reports said, adding that AOL officials have said there will be more layoffs in the coming weeks.

The layoff comes a year after the Virginia-based company let go of 60 members of its Mountain View workforce. And last spring, the company, which is part of Time Warner, laid off 420 call-center employees.
