Council umpires field dispute
(December 12, 2003) The city council approved a new athletic field use policy in response to arguments earlier in the year between two youth baseball leagues, Mountain View Babe Ruth and Mountain View Little League, who wanted to use the same field at the same time.
The new policy gives priority to certain sports depending on the season and to city-sponsored sports. Youth sports organizations have the next dibs, and consideration is given to the number of participants who are Mountain View residents.
Although Council members Greg Perry and Rosemary Stasek hoped to pass a more quantitative policy, city staff said the earlier scuffle of words between the baseball leagues would have been avoided with the new policy.
