No one was injured in Dec. 2 gunfire

By Jon Wiener

Mountain View Police have apprehended the suspect in a December 2 shooting on Pettis Ave. Sergio Sanchez of San Jose was arrested on Tuesday evening at 6:40 p.m. on charges of attempted murder.

According to police spokesperson Jim Bennett, Sanchez, 23, first exchanged heated words with another man at a gathering in the Chiquita Avenue neighborhood during the night of the incident.

Later, Sanchez and an unidentified passenger were driving south on Chiquita Avenue when they pulled up alongside two young men in a BMW, including the person he had argued with previously.

After yelling at them, Sanchez pointed a small caliber handgun out his window and fired two shots into the passenger door of the BMW.

Both bullets lodged in the door, and nobody was injured. Sanchez then chased the other car to the 200 block of Pettis Ave, where the driver of the BMW got out of his car to confront Sanchez.

Sanchez slowed down and fired at least four more shots, missing his target each time.

Police will not say how Sanchez and the victim are acquainted, but they have ruled out the possibility of gang-related activity being a factor in the crime.

Sanchez was attending a class for DUI offenders at the time of his arrest. He was taken to the Mountain View Police Station for processing and later booked at the San Jose main jail.

Bennett called Sanchez the fourth "very dangerous person" police have taken into custody this week. The arrest came just one day after police announced the arrest of three suspects in the murder of Mountain View resident Doris Condon.
