New café opens at Books Inc.
The Palo Alto Baking Company has opened the new Mt. View Bakery and Café on the second floor of Books Inc. on Castro Street. The café serves sandwiches, salads, baked goods from their Palo Alto bakery and has an extensive coffee and espresso menu.
The new downtown cafe took over the space at Books Inc after Café Libro sold its business, said Helen Sumser, manager at Books Inc. Unlike its predecessor, the Mt. View Bakery does not serve wine or beer. The café is open until 11 p.m. from Sunday through Thursday, and until midnight on Friday and Saturday evenings.
