Fares J. Martinez

Fares J. Martinez, a resident of Mountain View, died Dec. 13 in his home at age 91.

A native of Colorado, Martinez was a welder for Westinghouse. He is survived by wife Lydia; son Robert; brother Carlos; grandchildren Robert, Stephanie, and Lindsey; and four great grandchildren.

A vigil was held Dec. 17 at Spangler Mortuaries in Mountain View, followed by a mass service Dec. 18 at Saint William Catholic Church in Los Altos. Martinez was interred at Gate of Heaven.

Robert W. Lewis

Former Mountain View resident Robert W. Lewis, 95, died in Cupertino Dec. 4.

Born July 18, 1908 in Sioux City, Iowa, Lewis moved with his family to Mountain View in 1953. He retired in 1973 after 47 years in the banking business.

Lewis earned a Mountain View "Citizen of the Year" award, was active in Chamber of Commerce Mountain View, the Mountain View Community Fund and the American Red Cross, Palo Alto Area Chapter. He also served as chairman of two municipal bond campaigns in Mountain View and was a member of the Santa Clara County Grand Jury. In addition, Lewis was chairman of the regional group of the California Banker's Association and was active in the Navy League.

He is predeceased by wife Albena, as well as by daughters Irene Carey and Judy. He is survived by sons Robert Angus and Charles; daughter Katherine Munoz; 20 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Per his wishes, no formal service was held.
