Clinton to visit Peninsula
(February 20, 2004) Ticket sales will benefit local charities
Former President Bill Clinton and pop musician Tracy Chapman are slated to make guest appearances at a private benefit dinner in Los Altos Hills on Sunday.
Money raised at the special event will go toward Stree: Global Investments in Women, a nonprofit dedicated to improving women's health in disadvantaged communities around the world. Proceeds from Sunday night will also go toward the Morgan Manor Foundation, which provides counseling, education and grassroots assistance to working parents living at or just above the poverty line.
An invitation from the Morgan Manor Foundation said the evening, which will include a one-on-one question and answer session with Clinton and a personalized picture with the former commander in chief, will cost the partygoer $3,000 a plate. However, an announcement on Stree's Web site indicates that patrons can get in for as little as $250 and "benefactors" can reserve a table for 10 for $25,000.
Regardless of the price, however, Catherine Athans of the Morgan Manor said the dinner gala is not open to the public, and the hosts are only expecting 100 people in attendance.
"It's suppose to be a very intimate dinner with the president in an intimate forum," Athans said.
But it doesn't sound like Clinton will have time to sit down for dinner. Athans said he will only be staying for two hours before jetting off again.
A representative from Stree did not return a phone call for comment by the Voice's press time.
