Assault With Deadly Weapon -- 100 Block Fair Oaks Ave., 3/7
Two men were standing on the 100 block of Fair Oaks Ave. when they were approached by two men who asked for a cigarette. When the first two men told them they had no cigarettes, the second group flashed gang-related hand signals and were joined by three others.
All five suspects threw objects at the victims, including bricks, beer bottles and cans. Both victims were struck, but neither was injured. The suspects then fled, only to be apprehended by police near the scene. Two of the suspects were minors and were sent to juvenile hall, and the remaining three were sent to San Jose Main Jail. All of the suspects were charged with assault with a deadly weapon with a gang enhancement.
Battery on a Police Officer -- 1900 block San Luis Ave., 3/6
A man riding his bike on the committed a traffic violation, making a car swerve to avoid him. An officer saw the incident and stopped him.
During the stop, the man fled and appeared to be discarding contraband. The officer pursued and caught him, and they struggled. During the fight, the officer sustained minor injuries. Other officers arrived and assisted. After the suspect was subdued, police discovered that he had both drug paraphernalia and drugs in his possession. The suspect was booked on charges of battery on a police officer and possession of narcotics.
