(March 12, 2004) Lancers start season with a win
After being kept off the scoreboard for six innings, the St. Francis softball team managed to squeeze in two runs in the final two innings to defeat Los Gatos 2-1 on March 3. The Lancers picked up the tying run in the seventh inning and with a run in the final inning, gave Los Gatos the loss.
St. Francis pitcher Mollie Hoo picked up her first win of the season. Lancers' Julie Schloss recorded the game's only double and also hit two singles.
The Lancers are now 1-0 in the season.
MV trounces Independence
The Mountain View girls' softball team defeated Independece 5-0 on March 5. Spartan pitcher Ayra Maggay was awarded the win, and Ashley Walter and Elisha Olmos each had three hits including a double from each player.
The next Mountain View home game will be on March 11 against Menlo-Atherton at 3:30 p.m.
Spartan and Eagle tennis take early losses
The Mountain View boys' tennis team suffered its first loss in a 4-3 match against Homestead on March 1. Despite winning two of three doubles matches, the Spartans lost three of the four single matches to Homestead. John Doty picked up the only Mountain View singles win.
The next day, the Los Altos Eagles boy's tennis team fell one game short of a victory over Palo Alto after suffering its first loss of the season on March 2.
Nate Gorham and Ryan Louie picked up the only Eagles' single victories while the duo of Fenner and Bergeuin earned the Eagles' only doubles victory. The loss gave the Eagles a 0-1 record in division play.
SF volleyball victorious
The St. Francis boys' volleyball team advanced its season record to 2-1 after defeating Harbor on the road in three sets.
Led by Rich Brigham, who had 11 kills, the Lancers won 25-20, 25-17, 25-16.
Low shooting wins match
Golfer Charlie Sines and the Los Altos Eagles defeated Cupertino on March 4 at Shoreline 215-238. Sines received the medalist title with a score of 37. Par for the course was 36.
Los Altos is currently 3-2 overall and 3-1 in division play.
Eagles handle the birdies
The Los Altos badminton team defeated Milpitas on March 1, picking up its first win of the season. Eric Osborne defeated his Milpitas opponent 15-12, 15-0 in a boys' singles match. In a girls' singles match, Minnie Moy won 15-1, 15-0.
