(March 26, 2004) Mountain View Spartans
It took 11 hits and an extra inning, but in the end the Mountain View Spartans boy's baseball team kept its season perfect, defeating Palo Alto's Gunn High School 5-3 Saturday.
Strong pitching by Joe Hatasaki and Eric Davis and a sparkling offense led by Cody Garcia allowed Mountain View to go 6-0 overall and 4-0 in conference play. Runs from Michael Muira and Joe Tepe in the top of the eighth inning allowed the Spartans to pick up a win on the road.
Hatasaki continued his strong pitching, striking out nine in four innings. Due to the 10-innings-per-week rule, Hatasaki had to hand over the ball to Davis, who picked up his fourth win of the season. The Spartans combined for six doubles, two coming from Tepe and one from Garcia off the center-field wall. Garcia also provided the Spartans with a homerun.
St. Francis rolls over Ignatius
Making a first impression is always a good thing. St. Francis left its mark in the first inning, scoring 11 runs and sending St. Ignatius boy's baseball team home with an 18-5 loss.
Top player for the Lancers was Daniel Descalso once again, putting up a homerun and ending the night with five RBIs. Pitcher Rex Petrill picked up his fourth win on the season and remains without a loss. St. Francis is undefeated in 11 games and is 2-0 in conference play.
Los Altos
Pitcher Peter Moore did his part as the Los Altos Eagles hammered Cupertino 11-5 last Friday. Moore picked up his first win on the season and led the team with three hits. Andrew Barreto also had three hits, and the Eagles finished the night with 15.
SOFTBALL
Los Altos
The Los Altos girl's softball team fell four runs behind Lynbrook, but the Eagles rallied to win 5-4 to take a conference victory last Friday. Alyce Jorgensen picked up her fifth win.
