Los Altos High students suspended for drinking
(April 23, 2004)Nineteen Los Altos High School students were suspended after being caught drinking on two recent school-sponsored field trips to Southern California.
School officials repeatedly refused to comment on the incidents, confirming only that the suspensions have been issued and the involved students are a mix of juniors and seniors.
Brigitte Sarraf, the high school district's associate superintendent, said the busts happened over the weekend of April 9. Students involved in the incidents were suspended between one to five days, depending how involved they were, she added.
It has been reported that some of the students involved were on the track team. When track coach Julia Widstrand was reached by phone on Monday, she declined to comment on the situation.
Sarraf said she could not comment on how the students were caught or how they managed to sneak alcohol onto school field trips.
This week is spring break for Los Altos High, and Assistant Principal Wynne Satterwhite's voicemail was not accepting any additional messages.
