City council hopeful launches campaign

Stephanie Schaaf launched her campaign for a city council seat with a fundraising party at the Willow Park Condominiums Clubhouse last Sunday. Roughly 50 people turned up for the event and Schaaf raised $1,757, she said.

Schaaf is running for one of four open seats on the seven-member council. The election will be held in November. Schaaf currently sits on the Santa Clara County Commission on the Status of Women and is a member of the Mountain View Voices for Peace and the Northeast Mountain View Advisory Council. She served as the political committee chair for the Sierra Club from 2003-2004, was active on the Measure J and Measure E parcel tax campaigns to benefit local schools, and will graduate from Leadership Mountain View next month.

Schaaf, 27, grew up in Maryland and moved to Mountain View four years ago. She has worked as a software engineer at SGI for six years. The Green Party of Santa Clara County has endorsed Schaaf, who is a registered Green Party member.
