VTA moves forward on long-term plan VTA moves forward on long-term plan (April 30, 2004)

The Valley Transportation Authority's board of directors voted unanimously to approve a list of transit projects and forward it to the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, the group that oversees transportation plans throughout the Bay Area.

VTA's projects must be included in the MTC's plans to be eligible for federal funding. The board met last Friday in San Jose.

Mountain View City Council members, along with leaders from other nearby cities, have urged VTA to give higher priority to projects like Caltrain, that benefit North County riders. Opponents to VTA's current project list say a proposed BART extension to San Jose and Santa Clara threatens to deplete nearly all the funding allocated for transit improvements over the next 30 years.

The board will review and receive public comment on a final draft of the project list in July, before adopting a final plan in August. To learn more about the VTA's future plans, visit www.vtp2030.org.
