County judge found guilty
(May 07, 2004) Danser fixed tickets while on the bench
It took a jury of six men and six women just four hours to find Santa Clara Superior Court Judge William Danser guilty last week on all nine obstruction charges against him.
Danser was found guilty of one felony and eight misdemeanor counts of fixing tickets and giving other judicial breaks to 19 people, including San Jose Sharks hockey team President Greg Jamison, members of the San Jose Earthquakes soccer team and some people associated with the Los Gatos Little League program.
As the verdict was read, Danser looked down at the floor, his hands clasped firmly on the table.
In all, the judge was found guilty of one felony charge of obstruction of justice, six misdemeanor counts of obstruction of justice by a judicial officer and two misdemeanor counts of attempted obstruction of justice by a judicial officer. He faces up to three years in prison when he is sentenced.
"This is a man who has been in the legal system all of his life. He should know this is wrong,'' said juror Dennis Deisenroth.
Danser has been on paid administrative leave since being indicted by the Santa Clara County District Attorney's office in September.
The trial began with opening statements on April 6. Danser took the stand in his own defense for more than two days last week.
