(May 21, 2004) Bishop leads local swimmers at CCS
Brooke Bishop closed out a spectacular high school swimming career by defending her CCS swimming titles in the 50-yard freestyle and 100 backstroke and pacing Mountain View to a fifth-place finish.
Bishop also helped the Spartans to second-place finishes in both the 200 and 400 freestyle relays. The relays got an unexpected boost from the return of injured freshman Rebecca Koch.
Annika Larrson and Melanie Tansuwan led the way to a third-place finish for St. Francis, reaching finals in both of their events and two relays. For Los Altos, Courtney Beyer grabbed fourth-place finishes in the 200 free and 100 fly.
Tyler Landrith's fifth-place finish in the 100 free was the highest of any local male swimmer at the meet. Landrith also placed eighth in the 200 free. His teammate Fred Tran placed in both of his events.
St. Francis's 400 freestyle relay also finished fifth. Los Altos freshman Andreas Santucci came in seventh in the diving competition.
MV sets track records
Two Mountain View Spartans set school records at last Saturday's SCVAL track and field championships. Jane Doolittle set a new high jump mark with a leap of 5-4, finishing in third place. Ryan Reid's 2:00.55 in the 800 was good enough for fifth place and a new school record.
The St. Francis boys dominated Saturday's WCAL championships with first-place finishes in seven events. CCS semifinals take place this Saturday at San Jose City College, followed by finals on May 28.
