Voices Around Town Voices Around Town (May 28, 2004)

Should Palo Alto police have shot the mountain lion?

Asked in downtown Mountain View. Photos and interviews by Corey Pride.

"I think they're trigger-happy. The mountain lion was in a tree and moved. That was their justification. I think they could have waited for a tranquilizer gun."
Brian Underwood, Mountain View

"It's a judgment call for sure. They were the ones to make the call. I wasn't there."
Sandy Sandlin, Mountain View

"Police don't normally carry tranquilizer guns. They have to protect people's lives. That's their number one-thing."
Naomi St. Louis-Lieb, Mountain View

"Probably not. The tranquilizer seems like the more humane thing to do."
Yuki Murato, Mountain View

"Look at the alternative. If the mountain lion had killed somebody, people would be up in arms."
Larry Deangelos, Cupertino
