Lieber to speak on education

State Assembly member Sally Lieber, D-Mountain View, along with the Education Department of Santa Clara University and the Santa Clara County PTA, will host a public workshop, "The ABCs of California School Funding" on June 5.

The workshop will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Benson Memorial Center on the campus of Santa Clara University. It will prominently feature the PBS documentary, "First to Worst," which chronicles the decline of public education in California.

Local educators honored

Forty-five Bay Area teachers graduated from Foothill College's Krause Center for Innovation's 2003-2004 Earn While You Learn Institute on May 12. The focus of this institute is to develop teacher-leaders in technology and curriculum integration.

Each teacher received 10 units for the course and $5,000. The program was funded entirely by private donors.

The 2003-2004 local institute graduates include: Deborah Bjarnason from Blach Middle School; Mariko Kobata and Susan Nora Papson from Graham Middle School; Leigh Duggan and Megan Fowler from Crittenden Middle School; Catherine Enos and Janine Walker from Castro School and Laura Mabbott from Huff School.

The teachers tapped for spots in the 2005-2006 institute include: Cindy Burn, Elizabeth Mogin and Callie Rose from Crittenden Middle School; Kristina Underdal from Castro School; John Payne, Jr. from Los Altos High School and Hector Perez from Mountain View High School.
