Titans take second in Super Series Titans take second in Super Series (June 11, 2004)

During the Memorial Day weekend, the Los Altos-Mountain View under-10 Titan pony league baseball team claimed five wins and one final loss on the road to a second-place finish in Modesto's Super Series California State Championships.

"Their successful finish was a tribute to the difficult schedule played throughout the year," said coach John Verducci.

As part of an advanced pony baseball club, the Titans play 34 games in addition to the regular in-season schedule.

In the championship game, the Titans faced the Orangevale Volcanoes.

Timely hitting, gutsy pitching by Stephen Soward and some defensive gems by James Frazier pushed the Titans to a 4-2 lead entering the fourth inning.

At this point, the Volcano bats erupted. Despite loading the bases in a tense sixth inning, the Titans fell 9-4 to the Volcanoes.

"Throughout the tournament, every Titan player contributed to the teams' successful run in some way or another," said Verducci. Of the Orangevale game, he said, "It was amazing to watch both teams play to their potential in such a crucial game."
