Local Greens return from convention
(July 16, 2004) Mountain View residents returned from the Green Party convention in Milwaukee last month, where the Greens nominated Texas lawyer David Cobb, passing over independent running mates Ralph Nader and Peter Camejo.
The Mountain View delegation was divided over whom to nominate when it left for Wisconsin, but came back more or less united.
Fred Duperrault went to the convention a supporter of Camejo and came back determined to help both the Nader and Cobb tickets. "I'm sort of supporting both of them," he said.
Local delegates Tian Harter and Mike Fischetti both backed Cobb from the start and were elated at the convention's outcome.
"This is great! Cobb for president!" Harter said.
Fischetti was also pleased to meet other Greens from around the country and world. "What I thought was really impressive were the workshops we went to," he said. "I learned that this is a very international movement."
However, Fischetti did not return to Mountain View completely satisfied.
"I didn't get to taste the fish."
