(July 23, 2004) Sandhu joins city council race
Kalwant Sandhu took out nomination papers for city council last week, bringing the total number who have done so to nine. Like Margaret Abe-Koga, who declared her candidacy before the filing period opened last week, Sandhu is a member of the city's human resources commission. A youth soccer coach, he is also co-CEO of a start-up that raises money for after-school programs.
Sandhu said he is leaning toward running but has not finalized his decision yet.
"Lo and behold, it's more expensive to run for Mountain View City Council than for Congress," he said, referring to the $2,140 cost associated with ballot statements.
The nomination period closes on Aug. 6.
More school board candidates
Chris Chiang, a 23-year-old high school teacher, has pulled nomination papers for the Mountain View-Whisman school board race. He joins incumbent Gloria Higgins and newcomer Fiona Walter, who pulled papers last week.
There are three open seats on the school board.
Incumbent Susan Sweeley pulled papers for the two-seat high school board race, according to the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters office.
Incumbents run for hospital board
Incumbents Wesley Alles and Dominick Curatola pulled papers for the El Camino Hospital District board. Fellow incumbent Edward Bough has also pulled his nomination papers, according to the hospital.
