Police Log Police Log (July 30, 2004)

DUI, Hit and Run -- Church St./Franklin St., 7/24

At 5:38 p.m., a visibly intoxicated man was spotted getting into a vehicle on Palo Alto Avenue. The man, Jose Rojas, 26, proceeded to drive eastbound on Latham Street where he struck the open driver-side car door of a parked vehicle. The driver of the parked car was forced to jump back into the vehicle to avoid being hit.

A Good Samaritan, observing the hit-and-run, took chase in his vehicle and phoned the police. Rojas eventually stopped his car at the intersection of Church and Franklin Streets. The Good Samaritan then took Rojas' keys to keep him from continuing on and waited at the scene until police arrived and arrested him.

Assault with a Deadly Weapon -- 200 block Chiquita Ave., 7/25

A 21-year-old female drove by her ex-boyfriend's residence at 2:59 p.m. Spotting the vehicle of a female acquaintance of her ex-boyfriend, she exited her car and scratched the acquaintance's car with an unknown object.

The suspect's ex-boyfriend emerged from his house and confronted the suspect, who then took off in her car. She made a U-turn, driving by the residence again and nearly hitting her ex with her car. The suspect stopped the vehicle, got out, and charged at the female acquaintance, scratching her several times. She then lunged at her ex-boyfriend, scratching him several times as well.

The suspect fled the scene, but was found by Mountain View police early the next morning at the Pacific Inn where she was arrested.
