Voice wins awards
(August 06, 2004)
Coverage and editorial comment about the ongoing effort to monitor and reduce the impact of toxic chemicals at Moffett Field and a local neighborhood has earned the Voice a second-place public service award from the California Newspaper Publishers Association. The CNPA oversees the annual Better Newspaper Contest, which judges entries from virtually all newspapers in the state. The results were announced at the annual CNPA convention a few weeks ago. The Voice also won two other awards, second place in Environmental and Agriculture Reporting for a story titled "Unforeseen risk," and second place for a sports photograph of a St. Francis girls basketball game. The public service entry included a wide range of articles and editorials about the impact of toxic chemicals in the area bounded by Middlefield Road, Ellis Street and Whisman Road. The Voice competes with similar-sized weekly papers with circulation of up to 25,000. The Voice won first place in public service last year for work on the same subject.
