Auto burglary -- 200 block Evandale Ave., 7/27

At approximately 2:19 a.m., officers responded to a call reporting that two men were breaking into a vehicle in the garage of an apartment complex. While the officers were en route to the scene, a sergeant saw two men standing on the corner of Whisman Road and Evandale Avenue. When the two individuals spotted the marked police car, they fled.

The sergeant called for them to stop, and one did, while the other continued running. The stopped suspect was detained, and officers found a hammer nearby. The suspect was a juvenile, and he was cited for auto burglary and released into his parent's custody. The other suspect has been identified but not yet apprehended.

Petty theft -- Wal-Mart, 600 Showers Drive, 7/31

A little before 9 p.m., a man went into Wal-Mart and opened four DVD packages with a razor blade and then stuffed the discs into his pocket. A store security guard confronted the man, who admitted he had made a mistake, saying, "It was dumb."

The store security guard made a private person's arrest and called Mountain View police, which arrived at approximately 9:09 p.m. and took custody of the suspect. The suspect was cited for petty theft and ordered to appear in court. The DVDs taken were "Hannibal," "Starsky and Hutch," "Scary Movie 3," and "My Baby's Daddy," valued altogether at $79.05.
