MV man involved in fatal collision
(September 03, 2004) A man was struck by a drunken driver early Saturday morning near East Palo Alto and died from his injuries, California Highway Patrol officials announced.
According to a CHP report, at 3:41 a.m., Hector Gonzalez, 42, of San Mateo was stopped on the right shoulder of southbound Highway 101, south of Willow Road in his green Dodge Neon, which had broken down.
Hao Lin, 24, of Mountain View was driving his silver BMW M3 in the southbound, far right lanes of the highway at an unknown speed.
Lin's vehicle drifted to the right shoulder, striking the rear of the Gonzalez's car, according to the CHP.
Gonzalez initially received major injuries in the crash and died later at Stanford Medical Center
According to the CHP, Lin and his female passenger, Yee Lee Hong, 19, of Cupertino were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash and were not injured.
Lin was booked into the San Mateo County Jail on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and being in a collision while driving under the influence of alcohol.
A third party was involved in the collision, but CHP officials said that person was uninjured.
