Woman robbed and assaulted outside of bank
(September 03, 2004) A woman walking out of a Mountain View bank on Aug. 26 was the victim of an attempted robbery and assault, said police spokesperson Jim Bennett.
Officers responded to the Washington Mutual Bank located at 749 W. El Camino Real around 10:59 a.m. after receiving a report of a woman who had been robbed.
The victim had exited the main door of the bank and gotten into the driver's side of her vehicle when an unknown man pulled up in a blue Ford Ranger pickup truck and approached the victim's vehicle, according to Bennett.
The suspect opened the driver's side door while brandishing a knife and forced the woman into the passenger seat, Bennett said.
Bennett said the suspect drove the victim to another location in the parking lot where he robbed her of a cellular telephone and wallet with an undisclosed amount of cash.
After handing over the items, the woman was then assaulted by the suspect before she was able to free herself and exit the vehicle, according to Bennett.
Witnesses said the suspect ditched the victim's vehicle and fled in the truck heading east on El Camino Real.
The victim received no injuries as a result of the incident, Bennett said.
Bennett could not comment on the nature of the assault, citing an ongoing investigation.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his 30s, standing 5 feet 8 inches tall with a medium build and black hair. He was last seen wearing a black shirt, baseball cap and glasses, Bennett said.
