(September 10, 2004) Get ready for two lively days of rhythm and blues, swing, rock 'n roll, jazz, soul, world-beat, and Celtic folk music as downtown Mountain View turns into the Bay Area's hottest entertainment venue for the Art & Wine Festival. Eleven top bands will perform on the Budweiser True Music Stage and several street locations.
Dubbed the "best soul band this side of Detroit", The Cool Jerks deliver classic Motown, R&B, soul and swing from every era. Known for energetic vocals, funky dance moves, and the grooviest rhythm around and a sizzling horn section, they play a wide range of songs and styles ranging from the Godfather of Soul, James Brown, to all-time disco favorites. The Cool Jerks bring it home as the foot stompin', bootie shakin', Motown lovin' festival finale.
Since the group's beginning in 1970, Daddy-O has been an unstoppable entertaining fun machine. They combine comedy, dance and acting with their musical talents to make for a truly memorable experience. Daddy-O's extensive repertoire sounds convincingly like the originals of all the popular hits from the '50s and '60s.
Carlos Castaneda & the Mystic Pilots play a mix of rock and jazz. You'll enjoy both original music and great covers with influences by such great artists as Sting, Steely Dan, Bruce Hornsby and B.B. King. Founding member Carlos Castaneda's 25-year run of success as a bandleader and composer makes the Mystic Pilots shine.
Bay Area mainstays on the music scene, Nite Cry nails a high-impact performance every time. The seven-piece band plays rhythm and blues, rock and soul music with raw power and directness. Their high-energy, unique stage presence and full-speed ahead style keep the house vibrating with excitement.
The Groove Mercenaries is a powerful four-piece band covering a broad range of cover music including rock, funk and rhythm and blues. These seasoned players have shared the stage with legends like Bo Diddley, REO Speedwagon, Willie Nelson, Spyro Gyra and Tony Bennett, to name a few.
Regi Rockinelli and Steve Dore are Woogie Men -- two boogie-woogie maniacs with amazing chemistry and talent who get together to do their thing with a rare combination of passion and interest that crowds enjoy and appreciate. They play and sing up a storm of music ranging from their own upbeat tunes to some cool old rock and roll classics.
Gypsy Soul is an award-winning, international touring group whose original music is best described as folk/rock with a Celtic and American twist. They have independently produced six CDs and have had their music placed over 50 times on shows such as "Providence;" "Felicity;" "Roswell;" "The Young and The Restless" and MTV's "Tough Enough" among many others. Their latest CD, "The Journey" is available nationwide.
Groove Camp is a percussion ensemble with Latin and African rhythms "celebrating life and the creative spirit through music. Mostly percussion, the band also features a bass player and instruments including the dijiridu, djembe, congas and bongos.
Celtic harpist Aryeh Frankfurter's arrangements and playing style have a delicate, sparkling perfection with lyrical warmth. His music is enchanting, blissful and soothing. Windplayer Laura Bryant and keyboardist Max Gutierrez are Dreamroad. Their beautiful woodwind and keyboard compositions derived from diverse cultural heritage are melodic and spiritual with a rhythmic World-beat sensibility.
Ancient Winds plays traditional and contemporary folk music of the Andes Mountain region featuring upbeat, happy Ecuadorian rhythms. Traditional Andean folk music utilizes various wind instruments formed from reeds native to the jungle and coastal regions of South America.
