(September 10, 2004) Spartan polo takes Lincoln tourney
The Mountain View boys water polo team won the Lincoln High School Tournament Sept. 3 and 4 in San Jose, beating Hillsdale, Lincoln, Fremont and, in the finals, Wilcox.
After falling three points behind in the final, the Spartans took the lead against Wilcox during the fourth quarter and won 11-8. Robert Gregg, Brian Bishop and goalie Joey Marino led the effort but head coach Rafael Alapont added, "It was a team effort. Wilcox played a great game, but our defense helped us come from behind to win."
Mountain View plays in the Rosenbrock Tournament at Lynbrook High School on Sept. 24 and 25.

Former St. Francis assistant baseball coach Chris Volta was appointed head coach in the wake of former head coach Chris Bradford's retirement.
For four years, Volta has lead the Lancer Travel Team as head coach and directed St. Francis' Advanced Skills Baseball Camp and Holiday Hitting Camp. A former Santa Clara University pitcher, Volta also teaches math at St. Francis.
"[Volta's] experience playing at the Division I level in college as well as coaching some of the top high school players in the area will be a great benefit to our program," said Lancer Athletic Director Mike Pilawski.
Departing coach Chris Bradford was just named the American Baseball Coaches Association High School Division I Region 8 Coach of the Year.
He will be recognized at the ABCA National Convention in Nashville, Tenn. on Jan. 7, 2005. The award is given to eight coaches in the U.S each year, one from each of eight regions.
