Assault charge downgraded Assault charge downgraded (September 24, 2004)

* After an initial investigation, Mountain View police downgraded an assault with a deadly weapon charge at the Sports Page published in the Sept. 3 Voice Crime Watch column to "suspicious circumstances," which simply indicates that a report has been made.

The incident was the result of a domestic dispute between a couple who had left the bar and involved a claim by one party of injury from a car backing out of a parking space. The investigating officer concluded that there was not enough evidence to proceed with a case. The Voice regrets any misunderstanding.

* The story "Kids mull future, create mural" in last week's Voice described the Community Health Awareness Council (CHAC) as a local center that provides counseling and support services for troubled teens. In fact, CHAC provides counseling and support services for people of any age. The Voice regrets the error.
