By Huong C. Pham

In honor of a special time, the Community School of Music and Arts is presenting a month full of creativity and inspirations for artists and art enthusiasts.

During October, which is National Arts and Humanities Month, participants can continue to see and hear work from a variety of media including sketches, collages, paintings and music.

To kick off the event, Professor Elliot W. Eisner of Stanford University will give a presentation on "What Do the Arts Teach?" as part of CSMA's "Classes without Quizzes Arts Lecture Series." The lecture is on Oct. 1, California Arts Day.

Other artwork can be observed and studied by visiting the new exhibition at the Mohr Gallery where artist Inez Storer will open a show on Oct. 4.

"[This event] will also allow participants to ask the artist questions," said Jay Jhun, marketing manager of CSMA.

The exhibition will display more than 35 of Storer's older and current artwork. Storer is known for using "bits of cloth, pages from children's books, deteriorating photos" and incorporating words, like her mixed media on canvas, "I Go Where I Choose," said Jhun.

There is mix of free and paid admission events throughout the month.

On Oct. 24, children can listen and sing along at "Ralph's World" presented by CSMA's Applied Materials Concert4Kids Series. The program is based on a first-come, first-serve basis, and tickets will be given out on the same day of the concert.
