Maimed hiker to sign books at Costco Maimed hiker to sign books at Costco (October 01, 2004)

Aaron Ralston, the hiker who cut off his own hand after it was pinned to a canyon wall in Utah, will be in Mountain View on Oct. 2, signing his new book, "Between a Rock and a Hard Place." Ralston will be appearing at Costco, 1000 N. Rengstorff Ave. and will start signing books at 1 p.m.

According to news reports, Ralston spent more than five days trapped in a desolate Utah canyon in April 2003 and knew his only chance for survival would be to cut off his own hand, which was held down by a large boulder.

"Between a Rock and a Hard Place" is his first-person account of the ordeal.

Ralston's publicist said Ralston was not available for a phone interview with the Voice.
