Mountain View-Whisman School District Mountain View-Whisman School District (October 22, 2004)

With Rose Filicetti and Carol Fisher retiring in December, three seats are up for grabs this year.

Incumbent Gloria Higgins, a Slater School parent who was appointed to a two-year term in 2002, is running for re-election next month. She faces four challengers.

They are former school board member Juan Aranda, who resigned in 2002 because of health concerns; Stanford University administrator, Michael Kelly, who served on the Whisman school board; RoseMary Sias Roquero, an educator and Mountain View native; and Fiona Walter, a former engineer and Huff School parent.

In the following profiles by Voice reporter Julie O'Shea, the candidates explain their positions on the issues, including the search for the next superintendent, the budget, the achievement gap and the parcel tax lawsuit.
