Suspect in house burglaries nabbed Suspect in house burglaries nabbed (October 22, 2004)

Perez identified from fingerprint

A Mountain View man has been arrested in connection with a series of attempted burglaries at an apartment complex, police spokesperson Jim Bennett said on Monday.

Investigators recovered a fingerprint from an Oct. 10 burglary that matched 21-year-old Jesus Ruiz Perez, Bennett said.

Officers located and arrested Perez on Oct. 13 without incident.

Perez was booked into Santa Clara County Jail for three alleged counts of residential burglary, two counts of peeping, and one count of attempted burglary.

Officers responded on Oct. 10 to a report of a prowler in the 800 block of E. El Camino Real. Bennett said a female resident heard a noise coming from her room at about 11:53 p.m. and went to investigate, subsequently discovering a man attempting to enter into the room through an unlocked window.

The woman screamed and along with her roommate fled the apartment and went to a neighbor's residence where they called police.

Authorities were unable to locate the suspect, however his description matched that of a suspect in an attempted burglary at the same complex on Aug. 28.

An investigation revealed that Perez was responsible for the earlier attempted burglary in the complex.

The incident occurred around 1:37 a.m. when a 19-year-old woman awoke to find Perez standing in her room.

The woman ran out of the room before Perez fled through the window, which was unlocked, Bennett said.

It was also determined that Perez was the suspect in an unreported burglary in the same complex, although Bennett could not comment on how investigators linked Perez to that burglary.

Perez has not been connected to another burglary on Aug. 28 that occurred at 3:20 a.m. when a male suspect entered a home in the 1400 block of Ernestine Lane.

An 11-year-old girl got out of bed and walked into the hallway where she encountered the suspect, who allegedly put his hand over her mouth to muffle her screams.

Bennett said the girl was able to pull away from the suspect and slam her bedroom door as she screamed for her parents.

The suspect then ran out the front door before the girl's father awoke, Bennett said.

The suspect, who is still considered at large, is described as a Hispanic male in his 20s.
