Higgins, Walter lead in campaign money
Mountain View-Whisman school board candidate Gloria Higgins has raised $3,629, according to finance statements filed with the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters.
Challenger Fiona Walter raised $3,281 total for her campaign, according to her finance statements.
The other three candidates in the race, Juan Aranda, Michael Kelly and RoseMary Roquero, have previously filed forms stating their intentions to raise and spend less than $1,000 on their campaigns. They will not be required to file any further finance forms if they do not exceed that limit.
The five candidates are running for three open seats on the five-member board.
Yick undecided on supe job
Mountain View-Whisman Superintendent Eleanor Yick said she still hasn't decided whether she will apply to extend her tenure. Yick was appointed superintendent following Jim Negri's resignation in August. She currently has a 10-month contract, and the school board has elected to set aside funds to conduct a superintendent search.
"At this time, my work is focused on the very important decision the district must make regarding a school closure," Yick wrote in an e-mail to the Voice last week.
