MV man pleads guilty to rape
(December 10, 2004) Could face 21 years in prison for targeting prostitutes
A serial rapist and robber from Mountain View who allegedly preyed on prostitutes in San Francisco's Mission and Tenderloin neighborhoods pleaded guilty to a rape charge that makes him eligible for 21 years in prison, officials said last week.
Barney Robert Wong, 46, is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 13 following his Nov. 24 plea agreement, in which he admitted to rape and a prior felony strike conviction.
Wong, who surrendered to Mountain View Police on Oct. 22, 2003, was initially charged with 11 felony counts of rape, robbery, forced oral copulation, kidnapping and assault with a knife and handgun, according to the San Francisco district attorney's office.
According to the guilty plea, Wong admitted to raping a prostitute at knifepoint on July 5, 2000.
Authorities believe that he was involved in a number of similar incidents between 2000 and 2002.
The district attorney's office issued an arrest warrant after a DNA cold hit pointed to Wong and several victims picked him out of a photo line-up, according to officials.
