Hospital, ousted doctors talking again
(December 10, 2004) Officials at El Camino Hospital held a closed-door meeting with the group of anesthesiologists who were removed from their jobs last month amid a contract dispute.
The meeting, held Monday, was the first time both sides convened since negotiations abruptly ended Nov. 19. The group of veteran doctors was replaced with new ones, who left their jobs at a Fremont hospital.
In a brief statement released by the hospital Tuesday, the meeting was called "constructive." No more details were disclosed. Hospital spokesperson Judy Twitchell said the hospital had no comment beyond what was mentioned in the statement.
A representative for the ousted doctors also declined to comment.
El Camino wants its doctors to accept the reimbursement rates of the same insurance carriers the hospital uses. But the doctors claim that some insurance carriers don't have high enough reimbursement rates to cover all the costs of their anesthesia services.
