Eagle girls battle to ties

The Los Altos girls soccer team competed in the Palo Alto Classic from Nov. 30-Dec. 4, notching ties against St. Francis and Gunn and losing to Monta Vista.

Continuing a challenging pre-season that already included a tie against Mitty, the Eagles played St. Francis to a 1-1 draw. Despite injuries that whittled the roster down to 13 players, the Eagles were pleased to compete evenly with the tough West Catholic Athletic League programs.

"We have a nice group of talented players, and we haven't had the full team yet," said Los Altos Coach Roberto Magellan. "It's not every year we can tie Mitty and St. Francis."

The Eagles scored first against Monta Vista, but eventually fell 4-1. In the consolation game, Los Altos tied Gunn 0-0.

Los Altos concludes its pre-season with a Dec. 11 game at Santa Clara and begins De Anza League play at home against Gunn on Dec. 15.

Lancers overwhelm Terra Nova

The St. Francis boys basketball team defeated host Terra Nova 59-33 on Dec. 4 in the Jefferson Blue and Gold Tournament. Guard James Bisordi (13 points) and forward Wes Libuit (11 points, 7 rebounds) led a balanced effort, as 12 Lancers factored into the scoring.

St. Francis (2-0) continues pre-season play through the holidays and begins league competition by hosting Mitty on Jan. 4.

Peng leads Spartan win

The Mountain View girls basketball team won the consolation championship of the King's Academy Christmas Invitational by defeating ISA 64-40 on Dec. 4.

After a 49-38 first-round loss to Burlingame, the Spartans advanced to the consolation championship by defeating Harker 46-41.

Senior forward Michelle Peng paced the Spartans against ISA with 30 points. Continuing its pre-season, Mountain View (3-1) plays in the Terra Nova Tournament this week.

Water polo alums play in NCAA final four

Los Altos High School graduates Mike Murray ('01) and Chris Kelsch ('03) helped Princeton placed fourth in the NCAA water polo final four last weekend at Stanford.

Mountain View High School alumnus Adam Krikorian was on the deck as well, coaching UCLA to its national title.
