Wheeler heads MV-W board
At a special meeting earlier this month, the Mountain View-Whisman school board tapped Ellen Wheeler to be its next president. Gloria Higgins will serve as vice president.
Two new board members, Fiona Walter and RoseMary Roquero, who were elected to office last month, were sworn in at the Dec. 6 meeting.
Police dog back on the job
Tino, the Mountain View police dog investigated that bit a handcuffed suspect in September, will be back on active field duty on Dec. 17. The U.S. Department of Justice also concluded there was no evidence of a civil rights violation of Patrick Terry, the black suspect.
An outside consultant found that appropriate steel restraints that would have prevented the incident had not been installed in the police car Tino was riding in.
After subjecting Tino to a battery of tests, independent consultant Donald Flasching decided that the bite resulted from equipment failure and had little to do with the dog's ability to perform in the future.
The installation of restraints in the car has already been completed.
"Cops Who Care" now accepting donated gifts
The Mountain View Police Department is asking for donations of new and unwrapped toys for children of any age. Gifts may be dropped off at the police department at 1000 Villa St. between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., now through Dec. 23.
Children from the community are invited to the police department to select a gift of their choice. Gift selection will take place on Dec. 23 noon-6 p.m. and Dec. 24 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Camino Medical Group moves clinic
Camino Medical Group's pediatric clinic has moved from Mountain View to Sunnyvale. The new clinic, located at 877 Fremont Avenue, Building N, is bigger. The old clinic shared space with the medical group's OB/GYN practice.
The telephone number will remain the same: 934-7956.
The new pediatric clinic site will remain open until it joins six other Camino Medical Group clinics in the new medical facility in Mountain View on El Camino Real, which was recently approved by the city council. Construction of the new building will begin in 2005, with completion expected by 2007.
