Brigham leads Spartan cagers

The Mountain View girls basketball team defeated Terra Nova 58-46 on Dec. 9 in the Terra Nova Tournament.

Led by sophomore forward Laura Brigham, who scored a game-high 18 points, the Spartans atoned for their 68-30 loss to Mercy a day earlier.

Mountain View (3-2) plays in the Half Moon Bay Tournament this week and begins league play at Santa Clara on Jan. 5.

Eagles tie for fourth time

The Los Altos girls soccer team concluded its pre-season with a 1-1 tie at Santa Clara on Dec. 11.

Senior forward Alicia Incerpi scored the Eagles' lone goal in the first half on an assist by junior mid-fielder Jackie D'Innocenti.

Los Altos (0-2-4) returns to action with its first league game on Jan. 5 at Homestead.

Lancers defeats tourney host

The St. Francis girls basketball team continued its strong pre-season play with victories over Los Gatos and Skyline.

In its 53-52 defeat of Los Gatos on Dec. 7, the host Lancers were led by junior guard Cynthia Curley and senior forward Kim Mooney, who finished with 16 and 15 points, respectively.

St. Francis defeated Skyline 71-51 in the Skyline Shootout on Dec. 10. Junior center Rebecca Tratter's 17 points led a balanced effort, as four Lancers scored at least 11 points. But the Lancers (3-1) then fell to Castlemont in the final, 64-55.

The Lancers will visit Santa Cruz on Dec. 18 and host Mitty to open West Catholic Athletic League play on Jan. 5.

St. Francis narrowly makes tourney final

The St. Francis boys basketball team defeated Watsonville and Salinas at Dad's Tournament, but lost to host Santa Cruz in the championship game on Dec. 11.

Senior guard James Bisordi, with 18 points and four three-pointers, led the Lancers to a 64-42 opening-round win over Watsonville.

St. Francis used a corner three-pointer from senior guard Brady Fuerst with three seconds left to defeat Salinas 69-66 in the semifinals.

But the Lancers shot just 24 percent from the field in the final and lost to Santa Cruz 49-36. St. Francis posted its lowest-scoring quarter of the season in managing only five third-quarter points.

St. Francis (4-1) visits Burlingame on Dec. 18 and will host the St. Francis Tournament on Dec. 28-30.

Spartans still undefeated

With a 4-0 win over host Salinas on Dec. 11, the Mountain View boys soccer team maintained its unbeaten record entering league play.

The Spartans (5-0-1) host Santa Clara on Dec. 17 and will play in the Homestead Tournament on Dec. 18.

Lancers begin league play with win

The St. Francis boys soccer team began its West Catholic Athletic League season with a 1-0 victory over host Valley Christian on Dec. 9. The Lancers followed up with a 3-3 tie against Serra on Dec. 11.

St. Francis (4-2-2 overall, 1-0-1 league) visits St. Ignatius on Dec. 18.
