* The Mountain View Public Library will be closed Dec. 31 through Jan. 2. Regular hours resume on Jan. 3.

* On New Year's Eve, free service will be offered on all VTA buses and light rail lines from 7 p.m. until 2:39 a.m. on Jan. 2, 2005.

* On New Year's Eve, Caltrain will add one northbound train into San Francisco to the regular schedule.

Caltrain is also offering free service beginning at 11 p.m. Anyone boarding the train after 11 p.m. on New Year's Eve will get a free ride on Caltrain.

Three special post-midnight trains will make all regular local stops and will depart the San Francisco station at 12:45 a.m., 1:30 a.m. and 2 a.m.

Caltrain will operate on a Sunday schedule on New Year's Day.
