Are Americans doing enough to help with the tsunami relief
effort?
Asked in Downtown Mountain View. Pictures and interviews by Roseanne
G. Pereira.
"I think we could give a little more money, but we're doing all
that we can now. Because of the war effort in Iraq, we're juggling two
things. We're doing pretty good."
Shawn Hinkel, Mountain View
"No. From what I've read from recent statistics, we're at the very
bottom of the charts. Japan just boosted their funds to $500 million.
If we're trying to show we're the number-one country by leading efforts
like our actions in Iraq, we should be boosting our relief aid by a lot."
Diane Kung, Los Altos
"Last I heard, we were at $350 million plus private donations. Initially,
response was slow, but once we realized how bad the situation really was,
we stepped up."
Crystal Kwok, Mountain View
"How could we relieve all that pain and suffering?"
Memet Usal,
Mountain View
"Initially they weren't, which I attribute to the usual incompetence
of this administration, but I think they will eventually."
Mike Gleason, Mountain View
"I haven't been following very carefully, but I think so."
Sridhar Iyer, Sunnyvale
