Several women were harassed by a man armed with a laser beam while walking downtown last weekend. Mountain View police believe the suspect may be the same man in all the cases.
On Saturday evening, a female was walking alone on the 100 block of Castro St. when a man holding a silver object with a red laser came up to her and demanded her purse.
He pressed the object against the victim's face. Then, while shining the light, he grabbed the victim's purse and fled on foot.
Ten minutes later, a similar suspect approached another female, who was walking by herself on the 800 block of California St. He pointed an object with a light beam toward her, demanding her purse. The victim turned and fled with her belongings. The suspect ran away in a different direction.
The following evening at 11:08 p.m., a suspect similar to the previous suspects approached two females walking together on the 100 block of Castro St. The suspect displayed the object with the light. The females fled, and the suspect ran away in another direction.
A few minutes later, a similar man attempted to steal another female's purse at the downtown transit station.
This time, the subject pressed a dark object without a light against the woman's torso. He demanded the woman's wallet, but when the woman told him she didn't have one, the suspect ran away.
Police are looking for a black male in his late 20s to mid 30s, approximate 6-feet to 6-feet-3-inches tall, 200 to 250 pounds, wearing a dark-hooded sweatshirt and dark-colored baggy pants. He has no moustache or beard.
No suspect has been identified and apprehended yet.
