Mountain View police have released a detailed description of a vehicle believed to be driven by a man who allegedly abducted his son on Saturday, police spokesperson Jim Bennett said.
Investigators are searching for 30-year-old Salvador Garrido, who was visiting with his 3-year-old son Gianmarco, but failed to return the boy to his mother.
The Santa Clara County District Attorney's office is now investigating the case.
Garrido called the mother, who has full custody of the child, and told her that he would not be returning the boy.
Bennett said Garrido claimed that he was on his way or already in Mexico with Gianmarco and investigators believe his statements because Garrido has fled the country with his son on a prior occasion.
Garrido's vehicle has been identified as a 1995 black, two-door Nissan 240SX with license plate number 4FDA684.
The child is described as being 3-feet-tall with brown eyes and brown hair, according to Bennett. His father is described as standing five feet five inches tall and weighing 140 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
Garrido, a Mexican man, is also known as "Sanchez'' or "Marina,'' according to police.
An Amber Alert has not been issued in the case because authorities don't believe the child is in immediate danger, Bennett said.
