Board members in the Los Altos Elementary District have decided on a finalist in their hunt for a new superintendent, but won't be ready to announce the new leader's name for about a month.

The board's search firm is having another firm go through the "due diligence" process on the candidate, including a thorough criminal and financial background check, said board member Bill Cooper. The board is finalizing its offer to the candidate this week, he said.

Board members might introduce the candidate at their May 2 meeting, but it's more likely to be at their May 16 meeting.
