Support of zero tolerance for school vandalism

Editor:

Having read about the vandalism at Mountain View High School and the subsequent actions of the board of trustees, we would like to express our support and appreciation to the board for their zero tolerance policy on school vandalism. On June 6, 1995, with a vote of 74.7 percent, the residents of this high school district affirmed that we value education to the degree that we would tax ourselves, so that the facilities for teaching and learning could be improved to reflect these values. The decision by students to purchase glue and paint, and then vandalize these public facilities, owned by all of us, should not be tolerated by anyone.
