Local firm wins award

A Mountain View company that makes orthotic devices for elderly, disabled and injured people has won an award for its products.

Tibion Corporation was given the honor in a competition for start-ups developing products for the Baby Boomer market.

The competition, which was sponsored by the American Society on Aging, the White house Conference on Aging, AARP and SeniorNet, featured entrants from nine countries.

Tibion's products use embedded computer systems and advanced orthotic materials to assist muscles that are injured or rehabilitating.

The company believes the devices can help save money for the health care system by shortening post-operative hospital stays, optimizing physical therapy regimens and reducing the need for home care and long-term care facilities.

Curves under new management

Curves, on Evelyn Avenue, is under new ownership and is planning a grand-reopening celebration.

The franchise is now owned by Judy Rudy and Lisa Caliouette, who recently returned from "Camp Curves" at company headquarters in Waco, Texas.

Women who are interested in learning more about Curves are invited to the Mountain View location for "fun and refreshments" from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 to 7 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday.
